A guest speaker: Mr. Masanori Matsui(President of Television Hokkaido)

On September 21(Thu) at Park Terrace(Sapporo Park Hotel), Mr. Masanori Matsui gave an  exciting and interesting talk on American  politics, diplomacy and social changes—based on his own experiences

working for the NIKKEI,Washington D.C. as a foreign correnspodance . Inasmuch as the NIKKEI”s office directly facing the White House, Mr. Matsui as the head of the NIKKEI had an opportunity to observe what was going on at the White House.too.

Besides his talk, a new individual youth member, Haruna Nakamura–who studied at Ball State University in Indianna on an exchange student representing Sapporo University–was a happy addition to the AJSH.   She was  introduced by Dr. Haruno Ogasawara, her mentor.

９月２１日（木）のゲストスピーカーに長年（1980年代），米国首都ワシントンで日本経済新聞の支局長としても活躍した松井　正憲テレビ北海道新社長を講演者にお招きした。首都ワシントンの日経事務所はホワイトハウスの正面にあるため，松井社長はファーストハンドでホワイトハウスの内情を観察できた海外特派員でもあった。

今回も米国インデイアナ州立大学ボール校に留学軽軽のある中村ハルカさん（札幌大学でもアイヌ文化英語で紹介する研究に取り組んでいた。）が個人会委員として入会下さり，指導教授でもある小笠原はるの副実行委員長から紹介された。

７月２７日（木）のイブニング・レセプションにレイチェル・ブルーネット・チェン首席領事をお招きしての講演会『次世代につなぐ日米関係』が開催された。新兵器ともいえるクリッカ‐を使用され，参加者に日本からのアメリカ留学生が減った傾向とその対策，加えて，これからグルーバル化する社会が求め，挑戦できる次世代の育成の必要性を訴え，好評の内に講演が終了した。また，この日，札幌を訪問されたハワイ米日協会のSal 三輪会長と奥様のナンシーさんが参加下さり，日米友好親善を深めるディナーの集いとなった。　また，小笠原はるの「国際ユースフォーラム」副実行委員長より，新・個人青年会員となった吉田美貴さんと荻生田真吾（ニューヨーク州立大に在籍）さんの紹介があった。次世代メンバーの今後の活躍を祈念したい。

On July 27 at Park Terrace(at Sapporo Park Hotel), Rachel Brunett–Chen, Principal Officer of　the American Consulate General, Sapporo, gave a very informative and intriguing presentation on U.S.-Japan Relations for the Next Generation at the Evening Reception.　　Using clickers, audience members shared their views about the United States, the reasons for the recent decline in the number of Japanese youth studying abroad and the qualities young people will need to take on the challenges of living in an increasingly global society. Her presentation was warmly and well received by the audience that includes other guests from the Japan-American Society of Hawaii—Mr. Sal Miwa, Chair of JASH and his wife Nancy.     Additionally, Haruno Ogasawara, Vice Executive Director of the AJSH’s International Forum (IYF) introduced two youth members—Miki Yoshida and Shingo Ogiuda( a student at New York State University). We wish them the best of luck!

５月２５日の札幌グランドホテル（Ginsenの間）における 総会では、HIS（北海道インターナショナルスクール）のMusic Groupを招待しました。エジプトのカイロのインタナショナル・スクールから帰国された杉野先生の御嬢さんの杉野きりん先生率いる生徒達に素晴らしい歌やダンスを披露していただきました。彼らのニューヨークのブロードウエー・スタイルのパフォーマンスに７４名の参加者も大いに魅了されました。

On May 25 the annual  General Assembly was held at Sapporo Grand Hotel(Rm. Ginsen) by  Inviting HIS choir led by Ms.Kirin Sugino–a daughter of Mr.Sugino who returned from Cairo’s intgernational school in Egypt.  Those who (74 people) attended the luncheon were enormously enchanted by the marvelous Broadway New York style of music performance of HIS music group.

２０１７年３月２３日（木）京王プラザホテル札幌「雅の間」で行われた３月の例会では，サッポロビール株式会社・北海道代表の生方誠司氏をお招きし，同氏のアメリカ駐在時代の体験に基づく講演会『米国におけるサッポロビールの取り組み』が行われた。　生方代表のアメリカ文化企業文化におけるサッポロビールの挑戦，異文化ビジネスモデルの紹介もあり，大変刺激的なプリゼンテーションであった。

On March 23 (Thu), 2017，in Room “MIyabi-no Ma” at Keio Plaza Hotel, Sapporo, our guest speaker was Mr. Seiji Ubukata–Managing Director of Hokkaido Devision of Sapporo Breweries. His stimulating presentation revolved around his own experiences in the United States as the head of Sapporo Breweries U.S.A. Inc.
